The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) stands tall as a testament to India's remarkable achievements in the field of space exploration. Early Years:        

Dr. Vikram Sarabhai recognized the potential of space technology in transforming India's future. As a result, the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) was formed in 1962, which evelved later into ISRO. The journey began with India's first satellite, Aryabhata, was launched in 1975, marking India's entry into space.

Launch Vehicle;

One of ISRO's most significant achievements is the development of indigenous launch vehicles. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) have become workhorses for launching satellites into various orbits. The PSLV, especially has gained international recognition for its reliability and cost-effectiveness, making it a preferred choice for launching satellites from various countries. These achievements have not only reduced the dependency on foreign but generating revenue for ISRO.

 Missions

ISRO's Some of the notable missions includes

Chandrayaan-1: Launched in 2008, Chandrayaan-1 was India's first lunar mission. It made a significant discovery by detecting presence of water on the Moon's surface, changing our understanding of the Moon's composition.

Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan): Launched in 2013, Mangalyaan made India the first Asian nation to reach Mars' orbit and the fourth space agency in the world to do so. The mission's success was particularly noteworthy as it was achieved at a fraction of the cost of similar missionsdone by other countries.

 NavIC: The Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) is India's regional satellite navigation system, providing accurate positioning services over the Indian region. It enhances various applications like disaster management, transportation, and precision agriculture.it is just like GPS of USA.

Commercial Satellite

ISRO's successful missions have also paved the way for commercial satellite launches. Several countries now trust ISRO to launch their satellite into space, which has boosted India's space diplomacy and brought revenue for the ISRO. The Antrix Corporation, the commercial arm of ISRO, handles these satellite launch contracts and related services.

 

Space Research and Applications

Apart from launching satellites, ISRO actively conducts space research and development of space technologies. It has played a vital role in various fields like telecommunication, weather forecasting, remote sensing and disaster management. The Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) satellites have been instrumental in  resource mapping, agricultural monitoring, urban planning, and monitoring environment.

The Human Spaceflight Program

ISRO has set its sights on the stars by planning its first crewed mission, Gaganyaan. The program aims to send Indian astronauts, or "Gagannauts," to space and establish India's capability to undertake human spaceflight. This ambition will mark a significant milestone for ISRO and the nation as a whole.
