Chandrayaan-2 was launched on 22 July 2019 by GSLV Mark III-M1 from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra Pradesh. This vehicle reached the Moon's orbit on 20 August 2019 and started orbital positioning for the landing of Vikram Lander. The lander and rover were scheduled to land on the near side of the Moon at a latitude of about 70° south in the south polar region on 6 September 2019 and perform scientific experiments for one lunar day, which is approximately equal to two Earth weeks. Countries that have made a successful soft landing on the Moon include Luna 9 of the Soviet Union, Surveyor 1 of the United States (USA, Surveyor 1) and Chang'e 3 (China, Chang'e 3). . Now India has become the fourth country to do so.

WHY CHANDRAYAN 2 FAIL

However, the lander deviated from its intended trajectory and crashed while attempting to land on 6 September 2019. According to a failure analysis report submitted to ISRO, the accident was caused by a software glitch. ISRO will attempt landing again with Chandrayaan-3 in August 2022 (Chandrayaan-3).

After that Chandrayaan-2 mission was launched on 22 July 2019. After a journey of 47 days, the Gaya lander accompanying Chandrayaan-2 was about to land on the lunar surface but due to a software glitch, it crashed at the last moment and lost contact with the ground station.
