ISRO Chandrayaan-1 Mission: 22 October 2008 This is the date when the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched its first moon mission. This feat was done 45 years after India started its space mission. With the launch of Chandrayaan-1, India joined an exclusive club along with the US, Russia and Japan.

ABOUT CHANDRAYAN1

A lunar orbiter and an impactor were part of the mission. On 22 October 2008, at 00:52 UTC, India launched the spacecraft from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh using a PSLV-XL rocket. The mission resulted in a major boost to India's space programme, as India researched

and developed its own technology to explore the Moon. On November 8, 2008, the vehicle was placed in the Moon's orbit. The project was estimated to cost Rs 386 crore.Chandrayaan-1 operations were originally planned to last two years, but on 28 August 2009, controllers permanently lost contact with the spacecraft.

OBJECTIVE

1. Try on the evidence of water molecules shown by Chandrayaan-I and study the extent and distribution of water on the Moon

2. Study the topography, seismology, composition of the lunar surface, and the moon atmosphere

3. The study of ancient rocks and craters may provide clues to the origin and evolution of the Moon.

.The Moon's south pole region also contains clues to the fossil record of the early Solar System. Thus, it will also improve our understanding of the early Solar System.

4. Map the surface of the Moon and create 3D maps of it.

ACHIVEMENT

biggest achievement of the Chandrayaan-1 mission was the detection of water on the lunar surface. NASA also praised India for this achievement.

MISSION IMPORTANCE

The Moon provides a pristine environment for study. It is also closer than other celestial bodies. Understanding how it formed and evolved could help us better understand the Solar System and even Earth itself. With space travel taking shape and exoplanets being discovered every day, knowing more about Earth's celestial neighbor could help advance missions.
